A revolution in health care data is upon us. The long-awaited transition to ICD-10-CM (diagnosis codes) and ICD-10-PCS (procedure codes) is slated for October 2013. The change does not affect the use of CPT procedure codes for physicians or outpatient services. The shift to ICD-10 is expected to improve the capture of health care information, providing a precise picture of the care delivered by hospitals and physicians.
