As H&HN went to press, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services issued final regulations for its shared savings program. Initial reaction from provider groups was fairly positive. American Hospital Association President and CEO Rich Umbdenstock said the rule "represents the direction in which the hospital field is moving — toward better coordinated patient care across care settings." While the agency made several adjustments from the proposed rule, it remains to be seen if the changes will be enough to entice providers to participate.
