• The Association for the Healthcare Environment, a personal membership group of the American Hospital Association, elected Greg May 2015 AHE board president. May is the director of environmental services, linen and sustainability at UC San Diego Health System in San Diego.

Michael Gerardi, M.D., an emergency physician and faculty member at Morristown Memorial Medical Center in New Jersey, has assumed the presidency of the American College of Emergency Physicians. In addition to serving on the faculty for emergency medicine and pediatric emergency medicine, he is director of pediatric medicine at the Goryeb Children's Hospital in Morristown, N.J.

Acquisitions

HCA, which operates 165 hospitals and 113 surgery centers in 20 states and England, signed an agreement to acquire CareNow, a privately held company with 24 urgent care centers in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. CareNow will become a division inside of HCA. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. HCA expects to complete the transaction in the fourth quarter of this year.

IASIS Healthcare LLC, Franklin, Tenn. signed a definitive agreement for the sale of its North Vista Hospital, a 177-bed acute care hospital, to Prime Healthcare Services. Based in California, Prime Healthcare is a hospital system with 29 acute care hospitals providing more than 35,000 jobs in nine states. Subject to customary closing conditions, this transaction is expected to close by year end. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
