A replacement Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo will be constructed on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, less than two miles from the hospital's current location. The current facility, landlocked by its residential neighborhood and its 120-year infrastructure, is past its efficient, effective age, officials say. The project was developed by Women & Children's Hospital's physician strategic planning committee after nearly two years of planning, which included local, state and national data analysis, trending and focus on the right place and setting for pediatric and ob-gyn care in Western New York. Women & Children's is a Kaleida Health facility and teaching hospital for the University of Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. The architecture firm Shepley Bulfinch Richardson & Abbott of Boston will design the project.
