Rex N. Olsen died March 5 in Chicago at the age of 87. During his 29 years at the American Hospital Association, he held a number of positions with American Hospital Publishing, now Health Forum. He was associate publisher of Hospitals magazine and Trustee and oversaw AHA Press. Upon his retirement, he received an AHA Trustee Award for "exceptional contributions to the AHA's goals and programs for improving patient care." Independent health policy and ethics analyst Emily Friedman recalled him as "a skilled journalist, a talented editor and a born teacher. In this era of arrogant, short-sighted journalism, many of us who worked with him will remember Rex as a true professional, a true friend and a one-of-a-kind individual."
