• The Medical Center of Peach County, Byron, Ga., replacement hospital opened in July. The 70,000-square-foot, 25-bed critical access hospital includes an emergency department, imaging services, surgery space, a pharmacy, respiratory therapy and physical therapy rooms. The construction is a design-build process between Brasfield & Gorrie and Hinson Miller Kickirillo.
• Victory Medical Center Craig Ranch, McKinney, Texas, opened in August. The 58,000-square-foot hospital includes a four-bed intensive care unit, 20 private suites, five operating rooms and two special procedure rooms, as well as a medical office building attached to the hospital. Two additional operating rooms and one special procedure room will be completed by January 2014.
• Community Health Systems Inc. and Cleveland Clinic have been selected for exclusive negotiations toward the purchase of certain assets of Akron General Health System, including Akron General Medical Center, a 532-bed acute care hospital in Akron, Ohio; 70-bed Edwin Shaw Rehabilitation Hospital in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; Lodi Community Hospital, a 25-bed critical access hospital approximately 30 miles west of Akron; and other related health care facilities and services. A subsidiary of Community Health Systems Inc. and the Cleveland Clinic Foundation will form a new limited liability company to complete the proposed transaction. The parties will now complete the due diligence process and work toward finalizing terms of a definitive agreement. Completion of the proposed transaction will be subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals.
