Nominations are due Dec. 7 for the AHA NOVA Award, which honors up to five programs led by AHA member hospitals or health systems as “bright stars of the health care field.” Winners are recognized for improving community health by looking beyond patients’ physical ailments, rooting out the economic or social barriers to care and collaborating with other community stakeholders. Pledge for Equity

The American Hospital Association, with the American College of Healthcare Executives, America’s Essential Hospitals, Association of American Medical Colleges, and the Catholic Health Association of the United States, is encouraging hospitals and health care organizations to take the #123forEquityPledge, with three steps: Pledge to achieve the three areas of the Call to Action within the next 12 months; implement strategies that are reflected in your strategic plan and supported by your board and leadership; and provide quarterly updates on progress to the AHA and your board to track progress nationally; share your learnings in various venues including social media to accelerate progress collectively. AONE leader to retire

Pam Thompson, CEO of the American Organization of Nurse Executives and AHA senior vice president of nursing and chief nursing officer, will retire June 30, 2016. “Through her leadership, AONE has developed educational programs for emerging nurse leaders and launched initiatives to teach bedside nurses to innovate care and measure progress, ultimately improving care for patients,” says AHA President and CEO Rick Pollack. Thompson also has led the association's efforts to help develop the workforce for tomorrow. AONE is an AHA subsidiary. Thompson was the first person to hold the position of AHA senior vice president of nursing/CNO.
